Social Superpowers
Welcome students to the Social Superpowers session. Briefly introduce yourself and explain that over the next 30 minutes, they’ll learn and practice three key social skills: starting conversations, reading social cues, and showing empathy.
Objectives
Read each objective aloud. Emphasize that these skills will help everyone feel included and confident in the classroom and beyond.
Icebreaker: Conversation Starters
Explain the icebreaker activity: students will each get a [Conversation Starter Card](#conversation-starter-cards), find a partner, and practice their question. Model one example: “What’s your favorite hobby?”
Reading Social Cues
Display the [Emotion Expression Handout](#emotion-expression-handout) on the board. Point out facial expressions and body language. Then introduce two scenarios from the [Social Cues Scenario Cards](#social-cues-scenario-cards) and ask volunteers to identify the emotion.
Role-Play Practice
Explain the role-play process step by step. Remind students to switch roles halfway and to use the [Role-Play Feedback Form](#role-play-feedback-form) to give constructive comments.
Group Debrief
Bring everyone back together. Ask for 2–3 volunteers to share a highlight from their role-play. Point to key empathy strategies on the [Empathy Poster](#empathy-poster).
Reflection
Hand out the [Reflection Worksheet](#social-cues-reflection-worksheet). Guide students to write honestly about what they did well and what they want to practice more.
Keep Practicing Your Social Superpowers!
Thank students for their participation. Encourage them to use these social superpowers daily—during lunch, recess, or any group activity—to build stronger friendships.
