Spot & Speak Up

Welcome the class and introduce today’s topic. Explain that we’ll learn how to spot content online that makes us uncomfortable and what to do when we see it.

Warm-Up Question

Facilitate a quick warm-up. Point to the question, give students thinking time, then invite pairs to share.

What Is Inappropriate Content?

Define inappropriate content. Read each bullet aloud and ask students for examples they might have seen (blurred or vague descriptions only).

Visual Examples

Show each blurred screenshot one at a time. Ask: “Is this appropriate? Why or why not?” Field 2–3 student responses per image.

See Something, Say Something

Introduce the reporting approach. Read the phrase “See Something, Say Something” and explain each part.

How to Report

Walk through the step-by-step reporting process, modeling how to tell an adult clearly and calmly.

Group Activity Instructions

Explain the group activity. Distribute the worksheet and sticky notes. Remind students to work quietly in their groups.

Discussion

After groups finish, call on each one to share a scenario they flagged and their reason for reporting it. Record key reasons on the board.

Quick Quiz

Hand out the quick quiz. Give students 2 minutes to answer three multiple-choice questions, then collect.

Cool Down & Key Takeaways
