Lesson Plan

Stand Your Ground Lesson Plan

Students will identify various personal boundaries and practice asserting them through role-play. They will complete reflections to reinforce strategies for respectful communication and boundary setting.

Teaching personal boundaries equips students with skills to communicate limits, fostering healthier peer relationships and reducing behaviors like biting by providing constructive conflict-management tools.

Stand Your Ground

Welcome the student and introduce the topic. Emphasize that we’ll learn how to identify and stand up for our boundaries so we feel safe and respected.

What Are Personal Boundaries?

Define what a boundary is. Use simple language and ask for examples as you go.

Types of Boundaries

Discuss each type with a quick example. Encourage the student to share their own.

Why Boundaries Matter

Explain the benefits of clear boundaries. Relate to preventing upset or conflict (like biting) when feelings get strong.

Scenario: Crossing a Boundary

Present the scenario on a card. Ask, “Which boundary is crossed here?” Guide them to pinpoint the boundary.

Asserting Your Boundary

Model an “I” statement: “I feel upset when you…” Then ask the student to come up with their own.

Role-Play Practice

Have the student role-play responding to this scenario. Provide feedback on tone and body language.

Reflection & Goal

Invite the student to write one strategy they’ll use this week. Set a specific, realistic goal.
