Welcome students! Today we’re learning how to steer our emotions so we can stay focused, get along with others, and feel our best. Let’s dive in!
Ask: “What does it mean to regulate our emotions?” Write student responses on the board. Highlight that self-regulation helps us learn, play, and get along.
Emotion Regulation Anchor Chart
Unveil the anchor chart you’ve prepared. Walk students through each section: Recognize feelings, Choose a strategy, Take action.
Hand out the [Deep Breathing Script Cards](#deep-breathing-script-cards). Model the 4-4-4 pattern. Lead the class through two rounds. Ask how they feel afterward.
Naming Emotions with the Emotion Wheel
Give each student the [Emotion Wheel Handout](#emotion-wheel-handout). Have them point to their current emotion. Then turn to a partner and share a time they felt that way.
Brainstorm Mindful Breaks
Divide into small groups, handing out chart paper and markers. Circulate and prompt ideas—stretching, doodling, counting. Compile all ideas on the anchor chart.
Reflection & Personal Plan
Distribute the [Emotional Strategy Reflection Worksheet](#emotional-strategy-reflection-worksheet). Encourage students to pick one strategy and write out when and how they’ll use it.
Thank students for their participation. Encourage them to use these strategies whenever they need a moment to reset.
