Slide Deck

Stop The Hurt: Understanding & Preventing Bullying

Welcome students and introduce the lesson: explain that today we’ll learn what bullying is, why it matters, and how we can stand up for ourselves and others.

Learning Objectives

Read each objective aloud. Emphasize that these are the goals for today’s lesson.

What Is Bullying?

Ask: “What words or ideas come to mind when you hear ‘bullying’?” Chart responses if time allows. Then display the formal definition.

Types of Bullying

Provide concrete examples for each type. Invite volunteers to give an example from school or media.

Explore Scenarios

Explain group setup and distribute the Bullying Scenario Cards. Use guiding questions: “How does this feel for the target? What could happen next?”

Sample Scenario

Model one scenario analysis before students begin their group work. Show them how to fill in the chart.

Empathy Mapping

Introduce the Empathy Mapping Worksheet. Explain each quadrant with an example (e.g., “They might feel sad or scared.”).

Stand Up Strategies

Circulate and prompt groups: “Which of these strategies would be safest? Why?” Encourage at least one creative idea per group.

Role-Play & Share

Invite advanced groups to role-play their intervention. Remind others to listen and give supportive feedback.

Reflection & Commitment

Collect empathy maps and strategy handouts. Praise students for thoughtful commitments and remind them you’re available if they need support.
