Summer Recharge Blueprint Lesson Plan

Students will reflect on their personal mental health needs and design a customized Summer Self-Care Blueprint with actionable strategies to stay balanced and resilient over the break.

Planning self-care promotes emotional well-being, reduces stress, and builds lifelong resilience. Equipping students with a concrete blueprint empowers them to proactively manage their mental health during unstructured summer months.

Summer Recharge Blueprint

Welcome students and introduce today’s lesson. Emphasize that we’ll be learning how to plan for self-care and mental health over the summer break. Explain that by the end, everyone will have a personalized Summer Recharge Blueprint.

Lesson Objectives

Read through the objectives aloud. Invite students to share what they think each goal means. Highlight that these steps mirror how adults plan for wellbeing, too.

What Is Self-Care?

Ask: “What does self-care mean to you?” Collect a few responses. Introduce the five categories: physical, emotional, creative, social, and digital detox. Mention that the [Self-Care Techniques Infographic](#self-care-techniques-infographic) lists specific ideas under each.

Guided Reflection

Distribute the [Reflection Prompts Handout](#reflection-prompts-handout). Give students 8 minutes to write their answers. Circulate to prompt deeper thinking (e.g., “What activity helped you feel calm last summer?”).

Explore Self-Care Strategies

Project or display the [Self-Care Techniques Infographic](#self-care-techniques-infographic). Lead a brief discussion of each category. Then have students pair up and highlight 2–3 techniques they want to try, jotting ideas on sticky notes.

Create Your Blueprint

Hand out the [Summer Self-Care Blueprint Template](#summer-self-care-blueprint-template). Explain each column: Week, Activity, Resources Needed, Fallback Option. Encourage realistic planning—small steps lead to habit building.

Share & Wrap-Up

Invite 2–3 volunteers to share one part of their blueprint. Reinforce that plans can change—encourage checking in weekly. Collect templates if desired, or have students keep theirs for home.
