Welcome to Taming the Anxiety Monster

Introduce the lesson by greeting the students and briefly explaining what anxiety is and how it affects us all. Mention that today’s session will share ways to manage this anxiety in everyday situations.

What is Anxiety?

Discuss what anxiety feels like. Encourage students to share words that describe their experiences when they feel anxious (without going into personal details).

Recognizing Triggers

Introduce common triggers for anxiety. Guide the students to think of different school or social situations that might cause these feelings. Remind them that it's okay to feel this way.

Simple Coping Strategies

Explain the simple coping strategies that will be covered during the lesson. These include deep breathing, positive self-talk, and taking a short break.

Deep Breathing Exercise

Demonstrate the deep breathing exercise. Ask students to participate in a short breathing demo in unison with you.

Group Discussion Time

Facilitate small group discussions. Ask students to talk with their groups about which coping strategy they think could help them the most, and then share with the class.

Wrap-Up

Wrap up the session by recapping the coping strategies and asking for a volunteer to share one strategy they plan on using. Invite any questions from the class.
