Lesson Plan

Individual Regulation Roadmap

Co-create a personalized self-regulation blueprint with visual supports and coping scripts so the 5th grader can identify triggers, select strategies, and monitor their progress independently.

Building a tailored self-regulation plan gives the student ownership over managing emotional and sensory challenges, boosts self-awareness, and increases confidence and engagement in class.

Slide Deck

The Regulation Blueprint

Welcome the student warmly. Introduce the session title and objective: “Today we’ll build your very own regulation blueprint to help you feel calm and in control.” Use our session colors (#CDEAC0, #B6D8A8, #9AC189) for a friendly look.

Session Overview

Outline the five main steps of today’s session. Ask the student to restate them to check understanding.

Set the Stage

Ask: “Think of a recent time you felt overwhelmed. What happened?” Encourage the student to speak or jot down a quick note.

Identify Your Triggers

Use your Coach’s Self-Regulation Script prompts to help the student identify triggers.

What You Already Do

Highlight strengths: ask “What helps you calm down right now?” Capture any strategies the student already knows.

Build Your Blueprint

Introduce the My Regulation Blueprint worksheet. Guide the student to pick icons/colors for each trigger and strategy.

Create Your Coping Script

Help the student co-write a short, easy-to-remember coping script.

Practice Your Script

Role-play a scenario using the student’s script. Offer feedback and tips from the Coach’s Script.

Introduce Monitoring

Show the Self-Monitoring Checklist. Model how to check off items after using a strategy.

Next Steps

Summarize progress and set a follow-up plan: “Next session we’ll review your checklist and adjust your plan as needed.”
