Lesson Plan

Undersea Conflict Crew Plan

Students will learn to identify and practice three conflict roles—Sharks (create conflict), Jellyfish (avoid conflict), and Turtles (handle conflict)—through an interactive undersea game, discussion, and reflection. They will develop simple strategies to resolve disagreements positively.

Early conflict-resolution skills help first graders build empathy, communicate clearly, and maintain positive peer relationships. This lesson empowers them to recognize different responses and choose constructive approaches.

Slide Deck

Undersea Conflict Crew

Welcome students. Introduce the lesson objective: to learn three ways people react to conflicts using sea creatures. Explain that we’ll meet Sharks, Jellyfish, and Turtles under the sea.

Today’s Adventure

Briefly explain the flow: meeting the creatures, playing a game, role-playing, discussing, then reflecting.

Meet the Sharks, Jellyfish, and Turtles

Show pictures of each creature if available. Ask: “What do you think each one does when there’s a disagreement?”

Scenario 1: The Same Toy

Read the scenario aloud. Encourage students to imagine it clearly.

What Would a Shark Do?

Explain how a Shark would react. Emphasize that this escalates tension.

What Would a Jellyfish Do?

Explain how a Jellyfish would react. Point out that running away doesn’t solve the problem.

What Would a Turtle Do?

Explain how a Turtle would react. Highlight the calm, problem-solving approach.

Your Turn: Interactive Role-Play

Guide students through role-play. Assign each student roles and encourage using Turtle strategies when possible.

Let’s Talk About It

Use the prompts to guide conversation. Encourage full sentences and listening to each other.

Reflection Worksheet

Distribute the reflection worksheet and explain the task step by step.
