Lesson Plan

Mood Mapping Lesson Plan

Students will identify and name their current emotions by selecting an emoji that matches their feeling and color‐coding a personal feelings chart, building emotional vocabulary and self‐awareness.

Recognizing and labeling emotions supports self‐regulation, classroom well‐being, and lays the foundation for further social–emotional learning. This lesson empowers students to articulate feelings and develop emotional intelligence.

Sad

Use a soft gradient background (from #FF8C69 to #FF6347). Prompt students to recall a time they felt sad before asking for color suggestions.

Angry

Maintain the warm gradient. Encourage students to act out what being angry might look like, then ask for color ideas.

Surprised

Keep the same branded gradient. Share a quick anecdote of a surprise you experienced, then collect student color suggestions.

Scared

Finish with the branded warm gradient. Reassure students it’s okay to feel scared as you discuss scenarios, then ask for their color associations.
