Lines in the Sand

Welcome students and introduce today’s topic: understanding and setting healthy boundaries. Explain that we’ll explore personal, emotional, and physical boundaries using real-life scenarios.

What Is a Boundary?

Define what a boundary is and why it matters. Emphasize that boundaries protect our comfort, values, and well-being.

Types of Boundaries

Clarify the three main types of boundaries. Provide relatable examples: lending items (personal), sharing feelings (emotional), and personal space (physical).

Scenario 1

Project the scenario. Ask: What type of boundary is involved? How would you communicate your limit? Use thumbs-up/thumbs-down to gauge comfort.

Scenario 2

Highlight peer pressure and consent. Encourage students to propose an assertive response: “No thanks, I’m good.”

Scenario 3

Discuss respect for personal property. Suggest using an “I” statement: “I’d like you to ask me before borrowing.”

Scenario 4

Focus on trust and confidentiality. Ask how students might respond to protect emotional boundaries.

Discussion Prompts

Use these prompts to transition into the Scenario Swap Discussion activity. Encourage open sharing.
