Welcome the students and introduce today’s topic. Use an enthusiastic tone to engage Kindergartners.

Objective

Explain the goal of the lesson so students know what to expect.

Sentence Frame

Show or point to the anchor chart you prepared. Emphasize the sentence frame and clap on the question word “Where.”

Modeling: On

Place a picture card of a ball **on** the table. Model rising intonation for the question and full-sentence answer.

Modeling: Under

Now place a book **under** the table. Emphasize the new preposition “under.”

Guided Practice

Invite one student at a time to choose a card and place it next to or behind the chart. Then have partners practice the question and answer.

Closure

Select two volunteers to demonstrate for the class. Encourage classmates to listen and check the answer.
