Lesson Plan

High-Five Kickoff

Introduce kindergarten students to a real-time High-Five recognition system, practice giving meaningful high-fives, and reflect on positive behaviors to build a supportive classroom community.

Positive reinforcement through immediate recognition boosts student engagement, social-emotional growth, and a culture of kindness. High-fives make small wins visible and encourage consistent positive behavior.

Slide Deck

What is a High-Five?

Introduce this slide by asking: “Who knows what a high-five is? Why do we give high-fives?” Use an enthusiastic tone and point out the colorful background to grab students’ attention.

Positive Behaviors to Celebrate

Point to each bullet as you read it aloud. Ask for examples from students: “Can you show me what sharing looks like?”

High-Five Phrases

Model saying each phrase and doing a big high-five motion. Encourage students to watch your hands and listen for the words.

Practice Time!

Invite students to stand up and find a partner. Circulate and prompt pairs: “Tell your partner what you noticed, then give a high-five!”

Let’s Celebrate!

Bring everyone back to the carpet. Lead a big class cheer and a wave of high-fives around the circle.
