What Is Worry?

Today we’ll introduce the idea of worry. Ask: “Has anyone felt nervous about something that hasn’t happened yet?” Point out that worried thoughts can feel like butterflies in our belly or a pounding heart.

Common Triggers for Worry

Invite students to share things that make them worried. Record answers on chart paper or board. Highlight that everyone worries sometimes.

Be a Worry Detective

Explain the Worry Detective metaphor: we look for clues in our body and mind. Ask: “What clues do you notice when you worry?” Write student responses.

Healthy Ways to Handle Worry

Demonstrate a deep breath together. Encourage students to pick one strategy to try the next time they worry.
