Lesson Plan

Worry Warriors Lesson Plan

Students will recognize sudden anxious thoughts by noticing physical cues (e.g., racing heart) and practice two simple calming strategies—deep breathing and a tactile craft—to manage worry in the moment.

Early awareness of anxiety signals and easy coping tools build self-confidence and emotional resilience, giving kindergartners a foundation to handle small worries independently and reduce disruptive behaviors.

Worry Warriors

Welcome the class and introduce today’s theme. Say: “Today we are Worry Warriors! We will learn how to notice when we feel worried and practice easy ways to feel calm.”

Our Objective

Read the objectives out loud. Emphasize each bullet: noticing your body and trying new calm-down tools.

Meet Sammy and the Worry Bug

Show the title slide art or illustration for Sammy. Introduce the story: “This is Sammy. Sammy has a little worry bug that sometimes visits him.”

How Does Sammy Feel?

Read this passage from [Sammy and the Worry Bug Story Script](#sammy-and-the-worry-bug-story-script). Pause and ask: “How do you think Sammy feels when his heart races and his tummy flutters?”

Spotting Worry Signals

Ask students to name ways their bodies tell them when they’re worried. Show examples on the slide.

Feel Your Body

Model placing your hand on your chest and saying, “My heart is racing!” Then guide students: “Now you try. Place your hand here and tell your neighbor one signal you’ve felt.”

Make Your Worry Warrior Bracelet

Distribute paper plates and the [Worry Warrior Bracelets Template](#worry-warrior-bracelets-template). Give these instructions step by step and circulate to support.

Deep Breathing Practice

Have students hold up their bracelets. Lead them in three slow breaths: “Breathe in for 3…2…1… and breathe out.” Encourage them to squeeze their bracelet as they breathe out.

Use the Calm-Down Jar

Show the pre-made calm-down jar. Gently turn it and say: “Watch how the glitter settles as you take three calm breaths.” Invite everyone to breathe along.

Time to Share

Gather students in a circle. Invite volunteers to hold up their bracelet and share one signal they’ll watch for next time they feel worried.

You’re a Worry Warrior!

Praise all students: “Great work, Worry Warriors! Remember to notice your signals and use your tools whenever you feel worry.”
