Welcome the student and introduce today’s focus on building empathy through relationship skills. Explain that we’ll act as empathy detectives to recognize feelings and respond supportively.

Quickly review the session’s flow: warm-up, role-play, practice, and reflection. Keep transitions smooth and time-bound.

Display a few Emotion Recognition Cards one at a time. Ask the student to name the emotion and share a personal example. Provide feedback and model facial cues.

Read a scenario from the Active Listening Scenario Cards. Model listening behaviors, then have the student paraphrase and ask a follow-up question. Offer feedback on eye contact and body language.

Present a new scenario and hand out the Empathy Response Worksheet. Guide the student to write “I” statements, acknowledge feelings, and offer support. Review and refine their responses together.

Encourage the student to journal insights. Discuss which empathy skill they’ll practice this week. Schedule a brief follow-up check-in.

Thank the student for their participation. Reinforce confidence in using empathy skills in daily interactions.
