How Do I Feel? Plan

Students will identify and articulate their current emotions using visual cues and interactive play, and will compose a simple sentence to express how they feel by lesson’s end.

Building emotional literacy helps 2nd graders recognize and label feelings, improving self-awareness and social–emotional learning per CASEL Tier 1 standards.

How Do I Feel?

Welcome students to the session. Introduce our topic: recognizing and naming how we feel.

Happy

Show this face and say: “This is Happy.” Ask students: “What makes you feel happy?”

Sad

Point to the face and say: “This is Sad.” Ask: “When do you feel sad?”

Angry

Introduce this emotion: “Angry.” Ask students to make an angry face and share times they’ve felt angry.

Surprised

Highlight this surprised face. Ask: “What surprises you?”

Scared

Say: “This feeling is Scared.” Invite students to share things that scare them.

Calm

Introduce Calm. Ask: “When do you feel calm?” and encourage deep breaths.

Reflection

Ask volunteers to pick one emotion from today’s slides and share why they chose it. Prepare to transition to the next activity.
