Peer Power Plan

In this 30-minute Tier 3 session, the student will identify personal emotional triggers in peer interactions, practice three concrete calming strategies, and complete a personalized action plan to use in future challenging peer situations.

Teaching targeted coping skills empowers the student to manage peer-related stress, reduce conflict, and build resilience for healthier social interactions.

Peer Power Plan

Welcome the student warmly and introduce the session topic. Explain that today’s session, Peer Power Plan, will focus on learning and practicing coping strategies for peer challenges.

Session Objectives

Read each objective aloud and ensure the student understands. Emphasize how each step builds toward better self-management.

Step 1: Identify Emotional Triggers

Introduce the concept of triggers. Distribute the Coping Triggers Worksheet and guide the student through listing three peer situations that provoke strong emotions.

Step 2: Practice Calming Techniques

Display or hand out the Calming Strategies Poster. Model each technique and guide the student in one round of practice. Then role-play a quick scenario and prompt the student to choose a strategy.

Step 3: Create Your Action Plan

Hand out the Personalized Action Plan Template. Walk the student through filling in steps: recognize the trigger, select a strategy, and list follow-up actions. Set a reminder to review the plan.

Closing & Next Steps

Recap the steps and encourage the student to practice daily. Suggest they keep the action plan handy and reflect after each peer interaction.
