Resilient Futures: Visualizing Aspirations

Welcome students! Today we’re diving into Resilient Futures: Visualizing Aspirations. We’ll explore how vision boards help you clarify goals and build resilience. Mention the session’s flow: SMART goals review, brainstorming, samples, creation, gallery walk.

Why Vision Boards?

Invite students to share: What is a vision board? Why might visualizing goals build motivation? Emphasize connection between seeing your future and staying resilient when challenges arise.

Understanding SMART Goals

Review SMART criteria. Ask for student examples to ensure understanding. Clarify each component with a quick student call-and-response.

Aspirations Brainstorm

Distribute the [Personal Aspirations Reflection Worksheet](#aspirations-reflection-worksheet). Guide students to list 3–5 goals, ensuring they meet SMART criteria. Circulate to support and answer questions.

Sample Vision Boards

Show images of two student-created boards (project prior to class). Point out how academic, health, travel goals are represented. Highlight balance between personal & academic aspirations.

Demonstration: Selecting & Arranging

Demonstrate selecting and arranging materials on a blank poster board. Physically cut out a magazine image, position it, annotate with marker. Narrate your thought process.

Vision Board Creation

Explain the main creation phase. Encourage students to use varied materials and express personal style. Remind them to refer back to their SMART goals.

Gallery Walk & Reflection

Explain gallery walk procedure. Stress respectful, constructive feedback. Use sticky notes to leave one strength & one suggestion per board.

Closing & Next Steps

Wrap up and connect to next steps. Encourage students to place boards where they’ll see them daily. Invite volunteers to share one actionable step they’ll take this week.
