Lesson Plan

Stand Up Lesson Plan

Students will learn to identify various forms of bullying, practice asking for help from trusted adults, and develop safe strategies to stand up for themselves and others in both English and Spanish.

By recognizing bullying early and knowing how to seek help, students build empathy, confidence, and a safer classroom community. Bilingual materials ensure all learners, including Spanish speakers and those with IEP/504 plans, can access and participate fully.

Stand Up, Speak Up ¡Levántate y Alza la Voz!

Welcome students and introduce today’s goals: 1. Identify what bullying is. 2. Learn how to ask for help. 3. Practice safe ways to stand up for ourselves and others. Show enthusiasm and encourage participation in both English and Spanish.

What Is Bullying? ¿Qué es el acoso?

Point to each part of the definition as you read. Ask students to repeat key phrases in both languages.

Types of Bullying Tipos de acoso

Explain each type. Invite volunteers to give one example in English, then in Spanish, and jot them under the categories on chart paper.

Warm-Up: Share an Example Calentamiento: Comparte un ejemplo

Ask: “Who has seen or experienced bullying?” Alternate calls for examples in English and Spanish. Record student responses under the four categories on the board.

Group Scenario Role-Play Dramatización en grupos

Introduce the group role-play. Explain that each group will get a scenario sheet in English and Spanish. They will identify the bullying type and plan a short skit to intervene or ask for help.

Sentence Frames Marcos de frase

Model each frame by having two volunteers come up and practice. Encourage clear, respectful tone.

Cool-Down: Exit Ticket Reflexión Final

Explain the exit ticket and hand it out. Remind students to answer in whichever language they prefer or both. Collect for assessment.
