Slide Deck

Identify & Defuse

Welcome the student and introduce the slide deck. Explain that “Identify & Defuse” will help them spot stress signals in their body and mind and learn a quick way to calm down before stress takes over.

What Are Stress Signals?

Define stress signals. Use an everyday example (e.g., feeling your heart race before a test). Ask the student to share if they’ve noticed any similar sensations.

Physical Stress Signals

Review each physical sign. Invite the student to point out which ones they’ve experienced. You can mimic a racing heart by tapping your chest, or tense shoulders by hunching.

Emotional Stress Signals

Discuss emotional cues. Ask the student to rate how often they feel one of these emotions on a scale of 1–5. Emphasize that noticing emotions early can help us choose how to respond.

Why Spotting Signals Matters

Explain why early detection matters. Relate to sports: catching a small scrape early prevents a bigger injury. Stress is similar—catch it early to defuse it.

What Does “Defuse” Mean?

Introduce the idea of “defusing” stress. Emphasize it isn’t about eliminating challenges, but managing reactions. Preview quick strategies you’ll practice together.
